Colorectal cancer case study

Colorectal cancer is among the most destructive diseases worldwide. The American Cancer Society estimates ~ 110,000 new cases in the U.S. alone in 2023. Accordingly, accurate and timely diagnosis is crucial for improving patient outcomes.
 
Existing systems, however, are burdened by increasing care volumes and high inter- and intra- observer variability among specialists. Pathcal recognized this need to develop a prescription in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) product for colorectal cancer screening and risk assessment; it is an adjunctive AI/ML application that assists pathologists in detecting and ranking rectal polyps suspicious for cancer per their complete standard of care.

Just one of many

Pathcal's algorithms screen and triage WSIs for various indications, populating pathologists' work lists with slides/patches with the highest risk for cancer development. Rigorous clinical testing has proven that, when using our models, pathologists' classification accuracy increases significantly. Further, our vendor - slide scanner and image viewer - agnostic AI solutions allow straightforward and scalable integration for countless use cases.
